Ben's Bikes

20klms of winding road

Welcome,

The information about my May 2003 accident which destroyed my VFR and nearly killed me, is on the Latest News page.

At the end of January, 2001, I purchased a blue 2000 Honda VFR800 FiY RC46 Interceptor, prior to that I had a red 1999 Ducati ST4 with matching luggage, a blue 1998 Kawasaki ZX9R C1, and the first large bike that I purchased years ago when I first got an unrestricted licence, was a blue and silver 1992 Yamaha FJ1200D. Obviously, I'm partial to a sports/tourer style of bike and I tend to lean more towards the sporting side. I like to 'comfortably sport' for long periods at a time.

If you look through the list within the frame to the left, you will find all information I've gathered, pictures I've taken, sound files I've recorded, lists of what I've modified, and thoughts in general regarding the significant bikes I've owned over the last few years. I have had many other bikes but I'll just get down to the nitty gritty of the big bore road bikes that I've chosen to own so far.

Each person has their own preference, different bikes suit different styles, and different people do different riding. I have put this site here for those who are interested in any of the experiences I've had, mainly with the VFR800 and the Ducati, but also with the ZX9 and the FJ1200, so they can check out some of the information, links, and pictures that I have accumulated, and if you've got any ideas, if I have helped in any way, or maybe you just think I'm totally full of it, please don't hesitate to drop a note in the Guestbook and let me know.

We did go without a car for about three years with motorcycles being our only form of transport, but Lisa finally decided she couldn't live without another Mazda MX-5 (Miata). She loves the damn things. We figured why should I have all the fun, and so we bought one for her birthday in 2002. Her third white one. As such, you may see another section of the site dedicated to that little number in the near future.

You will find a few discussion group links at the bottom of this page. There's nothing commercial about them. I get nothing if you sign up for them. I'm certainly not trying to force you to sign up for them. I've simply always found these groups to be abundant sources of information. They're always on topic, with helpful info from great people who have experienced, first hand, the same things you're going through. Personally I think that signing up is an invaluable thing to do if you need a source of help and like to speak with similar minded people about your interests. You don't even have to speak if you don't want to, just lurk in the background and read other peoples messages. As long as you get something out of other peoples experiences you don't have to be dealing with situation on your own. That can only make things easier for you.

If you've arrived here via an index search engine or something, you probably aren't seeing the frame on the left which lists the contents and allows you to navigate the site. You should be looking at the either http://go.to/BenManton or http://BenManton.go.to. If that's not what's being shown in the address bar of your browser, click one of the links to be taken there. It will make getting around the site one hell of a lot easier. If your browser doesn't use frames then you are going to have to do it the hard way I'm afraid. There's a link at the bottom of this introduction for you to access the Site Map.

I sincerely hope you enjoy what I have to offer here and I also invite you to drop in to the About Us page, where you can see a few pictures of me and Lisa. Lisa should have been productive, so you should get some more info about our lives here, and find out how Lisa is settling in after moving to Sydney, Australia from her home in Vancouver, Canada.

Regards,

Ben Manton
