About Us

Ben & Lisa

It's a beautiful sunny winter day and I've been asked to do my part and update this page.  It's hard to know where to begin.  Usually a couple of years goes by and your life just carries on at it's usual pace.  You work, you play, you see family and friends and you fly back to Canada for a visit or two.  But you just don't expect to have an experience quite like we did last year.

I find it hard to type about it, though it's probably considered cathartic, and this being a motorcycle website, there's no place more appropriate.  He was going to do a page on the accident to let everyone know what had happened, and I think I'll let him fill everyone in because only he can tell what it was like from his point of view.  I certainly can't put myself in his shoes but then speaking as a spouse/partner to someone that's gone through this I have a whole other perspective on the events of the past 12 months.  I think I've experienced every emotion a human being is capable of.  This is all getting very deep, and I don't really mean to make it so but this is a page dedicated to what we've been up to over the last few years.  Allowing visitors and my family and friends alike to keep up to date with our existence and I honestly feel that this period of our life should be given the respect it deserves.  We survived.  Unlike some of his friends.  So I think I'm going to carry on from this beautiful sunny winter day and say that right now he's sitting on the couch, eating waffles and suffering through another taping of American Idol because his wife wants to watch it.  That's pretty much all I could ever hope for.

One must keep one's mother happy so I've put in a few details of our Australian life.  It felt a bit strange to add anymore after the first section but there is our life before, during and after the accident and I would like people to know that.  We did go back to Canada in 2002 for a wonderful Christmas with a touch of snow for about an hour on Christmas Eve, just as the turkey was cooking away. We caught up with old friends which was wonderful.  And it was great allowing Benjamin to see and feel the all mighty thrill of an obnoxious North American Christmas.  It's been 3 years for me and 4 years for him at the ABC now.  There have been many changes over the years but we're still very proud of our work.  Everyone there has been wonderful to us through everything.  Especially in setting Benjamin up to work from home.   This has made a big difference for us.  Benjamin's become rather passionate about photography so it made last years Christmas presents a breeze to buy.  We spend the odd weekend out and about in the car going to parks and beaches and out for little drives to take fill up the photo albums.  He's got quite a set up now and does amazing work on the computer with his pictures.  He was even featured on a whole page in a Digital Photography magazine and we were very proud.

Front YardWe're still hanging out in our Villa in Ryde, going on 3 years now.  Though it was recently updated with newBack Yard couches.  I finally got my chaise.  Now I'm thinking different furniture would go better.....  I can hear Benjamin now - "Oh the horror, it never ends!"  Homebodies at heart, we're still happiest watching our DVD's all day long and curling up on the couch.   Obviously just having the car now as our only transport, she's getting much more use than when she was first purchased.  And as the main driver, I'm learning more and more about different suburbs, and he's having to learn more and more to actually trust me behind the wheel!  He did fall asleep in the passenger seat the other night on the way home, so that has to be a good sign:-)

Once again we're into the chilly time of year.  I myself a pure hearted Canadian still can't believe how bloody cold it can get here.  We used to drive around at this time of the year with the top down, but sadly my convertible days have been put on hold since someone slashed the soft top, and we've been living with the hardtop in it's place.  Not that we mind, the heater and air conditioner are now actually able to do their respective jobs!  Who knew my birthday in June was at some point in my life going to be in the middle of winter?!

We celebrated out 5th wedding anniversary a little while ago.  At times it seems like the 5 years have gone by in the blink of an eye.  Even though we feel like we've been together all our lives.  It's been hard over the last few years, you have to miss important things that happen to your family, like my sister getting married (2 years ago), my Dad turning 65 and retiring, my nephews fighting their way to being black belts, and the accidents Mom and Dad have had. Of course, Mom's drastic move in line dancing and the breaking of her wrist will go down in history! They're always in our thoughts.

It's also been 5 years since I left Canada and we've finally convinced my parents to come and see our life here in Australia.  Well, we waited until Dad retired and now they will be hitting the shores of Australia in September for 3 wonderful months. As well as a few Aunts and maybe an Uncle.  A full Canadian contingent.  Talk about exciting.  Should make the next update very very interesting.

Enjoy and Safe Riding
